home. A representative of the Marina El Capitán will welcome you
at the airport and will drive you to the Pacific coast, right to your
hotel (1hour 30-minute drive from the airport).
Weather
The weather in Puerto Iztapa is sunny, hot and dry from mid-October to
mid-May. The temperature averages the 80's. Nights are fresher. The seas
are mostly calm in this part of the Pacific. Remember that Guatemala is
the country of eternal spring!
Catch & Release
Guatemala and international laws require that Billfish must be released.
However, smaller fish like dorado, tuna snappers can be kept to be prepared
for your dinner. Just ask a Marina El Capitán representative and
he will make the arrangements with the kitchen to cook your catch like
at home!
Bringing fish home
The Marina El Capitán can freeze up 15 pounds of fillet fish per
angler who want to take the fish home. If you wish to do so, please bring
a small cooler with you and a roll of duct tape. We will do the packing
for you.
Tackle & Equipment
We have complete sets of conventional fishing gear. However anglers for
fly fishing must bring their own tackle and equipment. Tackles and baits
for billfishing are provided daily to anglers by the Marina El Capitán.
Tipping
In sport fishing it is common to tip the crew and the captain, and the
amount is left to the discretion of the individual As a guideline in Guatemala,
for a party of four anglers we suggest giving a tip of US $100 (not exceeding
US $120) to the crew and the captain, per fishing day.
Currency
All prices are quoted in US dollars. When doing a purchase you can pay
in US dollars or in local currency, the Quetzal. Although the exchange
rate does not fluctuate it is recommended to ask for the conversion rate
of the day.
